excerpts from the “Introduction”

One of my beautiful indulgences is having lunch with my girl friends.  Prior to starting this blog (original manuscript for book) lunch included appetizer, entrée and dessert and my weight rose to 149 lbs by the time the following conversation took place.  My girl friend Chris laughed and said “…there are no ugly women – just lazy ones…” and triggered a conversation resulting with us all in agreement that many women do not fulfill their full beauty potential.  We all even admitted that we ourselves could benefit from a little improvement in at least one area, if not several areas, of our lives as well as our outward appearances.  Our conversation continued… covering topics from manicures, pedicures, facials, makeup, clothes, nutrition, fitness and even personal style of decorating our homes.  Another girl friend made the comment that it was just so much work to be beautiful – - – and that got me to thinking.  Yes, fitting a pedicure appointment, or even worse having to do your toes yourself, can seem like a chore when trying to cram it into an already busy schedule.  On the other hand if you learn how to relax and enjoy the moment you are living in, then a pedicure is a self-pampering experience, even when doing your own.

My goal in writing this blog/book was for me to research, learn, and share with other women, how to fulfill our full beauty potential in every area of our lives and more importantly – enjoying every moment of it.  As a professional makeup artist, my focus is usually on enhancing the beauty of one’s face but this self-help guide goes much deeper – encouraging you to fulfill your full beauty potential in all areas of your life.  All of this contributes to “The Beauty of Being a Woman”.

You are given one life and with that you are given the ability to not only dream but to achieve those dreams.  It is up to you to make the choice to go confidently in the direction of your dreams and live the life you’ve imagined.

For months I only thought about writing this as a book during my Sunday afternoon quiet time in my hammock.  One day I picked up a pen and wrote out a list that later became the titles of these chapters.  But it wasn’t until I wrote the title on my list of goals that it became more than just a wish.  Fulfilling your full beauty potential will take discipline and will be a journey, not a destination.  Learn now to enjoy the process of growth and improvement instead of being dissatisfied with where you are now, or worse – focusing on where you came from.  Success is a behavioral choice and step one is to change your mind.  Let go of old labels you used in the past to describe yourself and develop affirmations supporting who you choose to be.  Step two is to understand that where you are right now is because of the choices you have made.  Yes, life happens, and we are all thrown into situations we don’t want to be in but how we react or respond, what we choose to do with it, and how we allow it to affect us is a choice.  Choose today to accept responsibility for your life.  There is something very liberating about accepting full responsibility for your own life because when you do – then you begin to realize that your future is mostly in your own hands and that, my friend, is exciting.  Your future can become anything you can dream. Make the decision now that the changes in your life will be self-directed.

By now, with my manuscript well underway, my life is changing in so many ways because of the research I am doing in order to learn how to fulfill my beauty potential in each different area of my life.  I’m excited about the changes, especially in my level of fitness and being a healthier weight (now at 138 and working towards 125); but am equally excited about continuing to make goals for my future as I continue on this journey of fulfilling my beauty potential.  Now, lunch is more about enjoying the company of my girlfriends than it is about the food.
